MT TAPYAS: THE EXPERIENCE
Lets be real, climbing mountains isn’t easy. In fact, sometimes it can even make you question why you’re climbing in the first place. What you probably didn’t know was just how much climbing mountains has to TEACH you!
Patience, persistence and gratitude are what they have taught us. Patience with the path, becoming present and simply enjoying the climb. Persistence with the path, there may be obstacles, but we must keep climbing to be rewarded. Lastly gratitude, to be grateful for all that you could see and learn along the way and the feeling of complete exhilaration when you make it to the top!
In our case, it was 360 panoramic views of Coron from the mountains to right out to the sea, not to mention a Hollywood-like “CORON” sign!!!! What more could you ask for really! When arriving, we saw a risen basketball court; in the basketball court is where we parked and also where the steps will begin. Along the way up, a few different locals greeted us, trying to sell water bags, water shoes and water! At the time we turned them down but on the way back down we wanted that cold water so badly we just had to buy one!
After a few breaks to catch our breath, we made it!!!!!!!!!! cue exhilarating feels. It was definitely a sight for sore eyes, giant limestone cliffs just sticking up out of the bluest water. We felt like pinching ourselves. It was sooooo beautiful. We got into Coron around 10am, had a quick rest, ate some lunch and decided it would be a great time to climb around 2pm which of course was the hottest part of the day so when we made it to the top we decided just to kickback a little.
At the time, there was only 1 other couple at the top with us. Behind the sign there was also a little trail heading out to a little hut thing where you could relax. It was the ultimate destination for chill. I could even picture myself heading up there just to meditate.
If you do get the opportunity to visit Coron, we would highly suggest doing this hike! Like most look outs, it’s DEFINITELY worth the climb.
