APEIRANTHOS: THE EXPERIENCE
Apeiranthos is one of the tallest mountain villages in Naxos. Showing some of the most amazing cliff views. We visited this beauty after stopping in Chalkio and Filoti, two other beautiful villages on the way up. When we were nearing Apeirthanos, we pulled over at Rotonda restaurant to get some cliff side photos in their car park.
It wasn’t until we got out of the car that we noticed a tiny church nestled in the side of the cliff below us. We had to go down and have a look! we walked down a short amount of stairs until we reached one of the most breath taking viewpoints we had ever seen. The church was called Saint Irene. We were so thankful we decided to pull over in that exact spot to discover that view.
After admiring the view for a while, we got back in the car and about 5 minutes later we had reached Apeiranthos. We parked on the main road just outside of the village entrance. As soon as we walked through the entrance, we were struck with its beauty.
We wandered down the path alongside the cliff passing a variety of cafes and restaurants. One in particular caught our attention by the name of Samaradiko. The views from this place were so beautiful. They were more of a sweets cafè but like most, the menu will always include the traditional Greek salad and wine list. So that’s exactly what we got! Oh and a side of amazing views!
We then decided to take a walk up through the village. Just around the corner from Samaradiko was a 9th century Venetian castle. I looked up in awe. I’ve found all of the castles in Europe so fascinating. Where as Jackie found this tiny bike-ute more fascinating.
Like any village we visited in Naxos, we could wander for ages and get quite happily lost in its charming, winding paths. This was the final stop of our village hopping and we were so pleased with what we experienced on this day. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Naxos.
